Our research involving the brumbies in Queensland and the Northern territory has necessitated us working in a close relationship with controlled feral horse culling operations. For example, the Environmental Protection Authority carries out feral horse culling operations in National Parks which are under threat from overstocking. The EPA carries out humane culling operations overseen by a DPI veterinarian and RSPCA observers. Animals undergo autopsy to ascertain that they have been killed quickly and humanely.

Feral horse culling, to some, seems barbaric, but is essential to maintain a balance within certain altered environments. We need to be mindful of native fauna and flora which are under the protection by our national parks service, and are often at risk from feral animals, including horses.

At autopsy, our team obtains samples of many body organs, including the feet, for research purposes. These samples form the basis of some of our research data.

When the research analysis is complete, the brumby feet are professionally freeze dried for use by people like farriers, veterinarians and hoof care practitioners, who benefit by seeing first hand the unique foot of the brumby. A radiograph of the foot can also be obtained.

Selling brumby feet following data collection is one way of raising much needed funds to continue our research.

We currently have a supply of brumby feet (sagital sections exposing pedal bone, tendons, etc) nicely preserved by freeze drying. The feet are fixed permanently and will last forever without being chilled.

The feet are from brumbies from stony country and have a nice classic shape.

They are priced at $160 including postage within Australia. Orders from outside of Australia will be considered but only for large numbers
